NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - New laws regarding e-bikes go into effect tomorrow.
E-bikes continue to grow in popularity in Connecticut, which is why our state government has passed new e-bike laws.
“There really wasn’t anything on the books for electric bikes, and the market’s really taking off,” said State Sen. Christine Cohen.
Matt Schell owns Spark Cycleworks, an e-bike manufacturer in North Branford. He and his staff make four bikes a week.
Seven years in, he’s thrilled to hear about new laws regulating the growing market.
“It’s really proven itself that there is a place for e-bikes, especially with the laws in place. We’re more confident than ever,” Schell said. “We’re really happy with it.”
The new laws separate different types of e-bikes based on speed and power.
