MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Crime in Memphis was front and center before congressional leaders Tuesday in Washington as some lawmakers took aim at what they call soft-on-crime agendas in heavily Democratic cities such as Memphis.
State Senator Brent Taylor of Memphis went before the the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday giving his take on crime in the Bluff City and who he says is part of the blame.
"I want to talk to you about my efforts to make Memphis matter, but in order to make Memphis matter, we have to make Memphis safe," Taylor said.
The hearing was called "Blue City Chaos and Tragedy: How the Trump Administration is Addressing the Human Cost of Soft on Crime Policies," and was chaired by Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn.
