SAC COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — The man who allegedly assaulted the now former Sac County Sheriff has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
Court documents indicate that Matthew Birt, 33, pleaded not guilty to willful injury resulting in serious injury, along with assault on a peace officer with intent to inflict serious injury.
In a written arraignment, Birt also waived his right to a speedy trial. A jury trial date is scheduled for November 4 at the Sac County Courthouse.
On August 25, officials say Birt went to Jonathan Meyer's house and assaulted him in front of Meyer's son. Meyer did not fight back and suffered multiple injuries.
