NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Four years after the City of Nashville entered into a deal in principle with Speedway Motorsports Inc. to renovate the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, the project remains at a standstill.
The Fair Board says the plan — which includes hosting 10 races annually and the potential for a NASCAR race every other year — has not changed. The holdup, according to the board, lies with Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s office.
“The deal that we approved over two years ago that’s currently sitting on the mayor’s desk doesn’t change,” said Fair Board Chair Jasper Hendricks. “It’s 10 races a year, with the option of maybe a NASCAR race every two years.”
Mayor O’Connell’s office confirmed they are still reviewing proposals and listening to community input. Under the Metro Ch
