President Trump described his administration’s agreement with Pfizer on several drug pricing plans as a historic measure to lower costs for Americans. But policy experts said it’s not clear how much impact the deal will actually have on increasing drug affordability.

At a news conference Tuesday, Trump said that for Medicaid, Pfizer will offer its portfolio of drugs at prices equal to the lowest prices it offers other developed countries, or the “most-favored nations” prices. Pfizer will also launch new drugs in the U.S. at the same price as other countries, and offer some of its medications directly to Americans at cash prices lower than the list prices, the president said.
