WOODY CREEK, Colo. (KKTV) - On Tuesday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced it is conducting a review into the death of journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson.

According to investigators, this case review comes after a suggestion from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office following a request from Thompson’s widow, Anita Thompson.

The review is being conducted to provide an independent look at the investigation that occurred in 2005.

The CBI said 67-year-old Thompson died on Feb. 20, 2002, at his home in Woody Creek. Investigators said he died from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The original investigation concluded that Thompson’s death was a suicide, CBI said.
