HINTON, WV (WVNS) -- Opening a small business and having it be successful is a hard job.
It could be doubly as challenging when opening an ethnic food restaurant in a state that is 87% White, according to U.S. Census data.
El Azteca opened its doors on 3rd Avenue in Hinton back in August of 2023.
Just this year, they have moved to a riverside location on Stokes Drive, one of the busiest streets in town.
The family-owned business has thrived according to owner Veronica Villanueva.
Ariel Pons, the General Manager at the restaurant, agreed.
Pons said opening the restaurant is helping them keep their heritage alive in southern West Virginia.
