ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police released new details about a deadly trooper-involved shooting in Ascension Parish.

Troopers said the shooting happened just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, and claimed the life of Brandon Nicholas, 34.

Family members said Nicholas was a married father of four from St. Gabriel.

According to LSP, an investigation revealed that during a stop for a traffic violation on LA Highway 431 near LA Highway 935, Nicholas was involved in an altercation with a trooper.

During the encounter between the trooper and Nicholas, the trooper discharged a weapon, striking Nicholas, troopers said. They added that Nicholas was taken to a hospital and was pronounced
