ELDRIDGE, Iowa (KWQC) - Eldridge city officials are warning people about an email scam.

City officials said applicants of recent Planning and Zoning initiatives have been targeted by scammers, according to a Facebook post.

Scammers appeared to have skimmed the public records information for these requests, officials said, and have then sent applicants an email that looks like city emails asking for additional application fees.

Officials said scammers usually ask for payment by wire transfer, something they said the city never does.

People who’ve submitted an application and gotten an email asking for additional funds are asked to call City Hall at (563)285-4841.
