WASHINGTON — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID) is investigating a fatal shooting involving the Cheverly Police Chief.

On Tuesday, officers with the Cheverly Police Department were in Riverdale investigating a stabbing that took place in Cheverly earlier that day. Among the officers was Police Chief David Morris.

Officers located a car in the 6600 block of Greenland Street, believed to belong to the suspect connected to the stabbing. Chief Morris found a man outdoors, believed to be the suspect, who was armed with knives.

According to police, the suspect charged at Chief Morris, resulting in him discharging his firearm. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Two knives were reportedly recovered at the scene.
