The Ministry of Information and Digitisation has confirmed that the outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera will attend the inauguration of President-elect Peter Mutharika and Vice-President-elect Jane Ansah this Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

According to the Ministry’s Principal Secretary, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, Vice-President Michael Usi is also expected to be present. The event is open to the public.

Heads of State and Government from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have been invited to attend. Among them, former President Bakili Muluzi has confirmed his attendance.

Mutharika, representing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), won the September 16 election, defeating incumbent Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
