The Puja here carries the legacy of more than five centuries and at this Durgabari it is the 149th year of celebration said Jayanta Bhattacharjee, the present head priest.

The 149-year-old Durgabari Durga Puja, initiated during the reign of the Tripura kings and financed by successive governments for over seven decades, celebrated Maha Nabami on Wednesday with age-old rituals that continue to captivate devotees from across India and neighbouring Bangladesh.

Located in front of the historic Ujjayanta Palace, the Durgabari temple has remained a symbol of continuity where royal-era traditions blend with state administration. Ministers, dignitaries, and thousands of devotees thronged the temple to offer prayers on Maha Nabami, following rituals which have not changed for generations.
