LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A man accused of firing a gunshot at a Metro police officer thanked a different officer for not shooting him during an arrest weeks earlier, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

Jaime Bustillos, 19, faces drug-related and attempted murder charges for two incidents since July, records said.

On July 18, a Metro police officer encountered Bustillos after he allegedly crashed into two vehicles on Sahara Avenue near Nellis Boulevard, documents said.

As the officer approached Bustillos, the driver appeared to be handling a rifle in the car, leading the officer to hold him at gunpoint, documents said. In the car, an officer located 60 marijuana vape pens.
