PORTLAND, Oregon — The cities of Portland and Vancouver have lifted burn bans that were in place over the last few months.

Both bans were lifted effective Wednesday, Oct. 1. Portland's ban previously went into effect on June 23, while Vancouver's went into effect on June 13.

Vancouver residents aren't permitted to burn things like brush, vegetation or garbage within city limits. Only recreational campfires smaller than 3 feet wide by 2 feet tall are allowed.

Although Portland allows for the burning of yard and agricultural debris, fire officials encourage people to only burn dried firewood in a controlled setting.

People are encouraged to use caution when cooking using an open flame or starting a recreational fire.
