EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Evansville Fire Department announced they will be getting new and improved gear.
Officials say crews will transition from the traditional tan gear to new black gear from a new manufacturer over the next few years.
Jarrod Brown, deputy chief of finance & logistics, says a set of fire gear can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000.
He says they want to ensure the gear they are buying is the safest for their fire fighters.
Fire officials say this new gear has a higher durability so it doesn’t absorb water and harmful materials.
They also say it’s a more athletic fit and is more inclusive in sizes for female firefighters.
According to the EFD official Facebook, the change will take time to ensure they choose the safest, most reliable and cost-effective gear.
