Lamenting political violence: The special legislative session started Wednesday with a bipartisan call for civility and condemnation of violence in both chambers of the Legislature.

Senate Republicans praised the memory of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk and Democrats remembered two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota who were shot — one fatally — along with their spouses in June.

Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, D-Santa Fe, complimented Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox’s Sunday appearance on 60 Minutes when they delivered “a unified message that political violence is not the way to resolve our differences and has to stop.”
