Armed police have shot a man in Manchester after a violent attack outside a synagogue left four people wounded on Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed officers were called to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall just after 9.30am on Thursday.
Reports suggested a car had been deliberately driven at members of the public before a stabbing took place.
Moments later police declared “Plato” – a national response used in suspected marauding terror attacks.
The designation triggers emergency protocols across the NHS and other services, treating the unfolding violence as a major incident.
