NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The first phase of planning to erect a monument to unborn children on the Capitol grounds is underway more than seven years after lawmakers approved the measure.
The State Building Commission approved a $4,000 private donation to go toward the construction of the "memorial for unborn children."
In 2018, the Republican-led legislature passed a bill approving the Tennessee Monument to Unborn Children, which would be paid for through private donations only. The measure was sponsored by Rep. Jerry Sexton (R-Bean Station) and Sen. Steve Southerland (R-Morristown).
