CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A person died after they were shot at a busy shopping center Wednesday night, right outside Uptown Charlotte.

The Oct. 1 shooting happened just before 8 p.m. at the Target shopping center on , near the intersection of Charlottetowne Avenue and South Kings Drive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said an off-duty officer was listening to his radio and was in the area when the shooting happened. After he heard the call come across, he went straight to where the shooting took place and found a person with gunshot wounds.

Police said the off-duty officer tried to treat the person until paramedics arrived and took the person to the hospital, where he died.

Officials had not publicly released the name of the person killed as of early Thursday morning.
