The hum, a live music venue in downtown Hickory, will close after an Oct. 4 show.

The business announced the closure in a Facebook post on Oct. 1.

“It’s heartbreaking,” co-owner Andrew Moose said by phone on Oct. 1. “It’s something that we, as a group, did as a community project. Our initial plans haven’t exactly worked.”

The hum opened in 2021. In a previous Hickory Daily Record article, co-owner Andrew Moose said he wanted to give Hickory a place to support local musicians.

“There are more great local musicians here than you know,” Moose said in 2021. “I would love to be able to show people.”

Moose said the hum tried to adapt to what fans wanted. They started with musicians playing their own songs before pivoting to tribute bands.
