ALBEMARLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- One person is dead after a crash in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Albemarle Police Department.
Around 2:11 a.m. on Oct. 1, officers responded to a crash at the intersection of NC Highway 24/27 and Henson Street. They arrived to find a pedestrian with critical injuries. The pedestrian was taken to Atrium Health Stanly, where they later passed away.
Police say the driver of the vehicle involved, 19-year-old Alston Paul Burr of Albemarle, fled the crash. Burr was later found and his home and arrested.
Burr is charged with Driving While Impaired (DWI) and Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Death. He was issued a $50,000 bond.
Police say they are waiting to publicly identify the victim until their family is notified of the incident.
