LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Lancaster Police are working to make the city safer.

The department says crime has gone down significantly from 2023 to 2024 with violent crimes dropping from 275 incidents to 245. Officials are hoping a new $1.8 million grant will help continue that trend.

"We want to try to build a bridge between law enforcement and the community as far as gang and gun violence is concerned," says Carlie Mingo, director for the city's Community Violence Intervention and Prevention program.

In January, the police department was awarded a $1.8 million three-year grant from the US Department of Justice to develop a Community Violence Intervention and Prevention program.
