BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-La.) requested that her pay be withheld during the government shutdown.
A letter dated Sept. 30 containing the request was sent to Catherine Szpindor, the chief administrative officer of the U.S. House of Representatives. She asks that her net pay be held off until an appropriations agreement takes effect.
"Members of Congress should not receive a paycheck during a shutdown - especially when our troops are at risk of missing a paycheck," Letlow said.
The government shutdown started Wednesday after lawmakers couldn't reach an agreement. Letlow and other Louisiana leaders voiced concerns for residents who participate in the National Flood Insurance Program, which can't issue new policies or renew policies during a shutdow
