CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The first drought monitor of October was released Thursday, Oct. 2. This includes all rain that fell through Tuesday, Sept. 30.

There wasn't much change across the Charlotte metro, even after three days of measurable rainfall in the past week. Across Charlotte, we would need 4 to 5 inches over the next month to get back to normal and out of drought conditions.

However, the mountains and foothills saw improvement, as there were multiple days of downpours last week.

Still, the worst drought remains on the eastern side of the Carolinas.

Latest numbers for North Carolina: • 24% of the state is under level 2 drought conditions (D1 moderate drought) • 82% of the state is under level 1 drought conditions (D0 abnormally dry)
