FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WJW) – A North Carolina man got a winning lottery prize that was bigger than he expected.

According to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery, a Fayetteville man arrived at the lottery headquarters on Friday to pick up what he believed was a $2,000 prize. But, he was shocked to learn that his winnings were actually the $150,000 top prize.

“I’ve never seen such a thing,” Herminio Rivera said at the lottery headquarters. “That’s a lot of money.”

According to the release, Rivera said he knew he had won a big prize when his scanned ticket said he needed to go to the headquarters to claim his prize. He just didn’t know quite how big the prize would be.

“I thought I won $2,000,” he said. “I was shocked.”
