COLUMBIA, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A popular York County greenway system landed nearly 30 trees through a state environmental grant program.
PalmettoPride is an anti-litter organization that has awarded 1,503 trees to 18 organizations in 13 counties through its annual Tree Grant program. They’re offered to municipalities, nonprofits and environmental groups across South Carolina.
The grants provide trees for planting in public spaces such as parks and schools, expanding access to green space for residents statewide. This year’s grants come a year after Hurricane Helene destroyed nearly a million trees and an estimated 1 to 4 percent of South Carolina’s canopy coverage.
The Anne Springs Close Greenway was awarded 28 trees via the grant. The nature preserve covers 2,100 acres in Fort Mill
