ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Pilots launched balloons from elementary schools across Albuquerque on Friday in the unofficial kickoff to Balloon Fiesta as part of ABQ Aloft.

In ABQ Aloft, hot-air balloons are launched from schools around the Albuquerque Metro.

Albuquerque Aloft is a unique event in that balloons are launched from pre-determined sites outside of Balloon Fiesta Park.

Parents, students and school staff are able to witness the balloons start inflation and take off. Those there will also be able to meet the pilots operating the hot-air balloons.
