Salina, NY - The new Hoosock-Jensen Salina Community Center is scheduled to have its grand opening at 11 a.m. Oct. 11.

The center, at 2602 Brewerton Road in Salina, is named after Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock and Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen .

The two were fatally shot April 14, 2024 , while responding to a standoff in Salina.

The $7 million community center is a two-story 14,000-square-foot building that will house the town’s recreation offices. It also will have programs for senior adults, youth and teens, said Salina Town Supervisor Nick Paro.

Paro said the Fraternal Order of Police, which is made up of retired police officers, and community residents suggested naming the center after Hoosock and Jensen.
