AUBURN HILLS, MI – A pedestrian was fatally struck during the early hours of Friday, Oct. 3, while crossing a major freeway in southeast Michigan, police said.

The 40-year-old Oakland man was wearing all dark clothing just before 1 a.m. as he walked across I-75 near Chrysler Drive in Auburn Hills, according to a news release from the local police department. He was struck by a black Volkswagen Jetta on southbound I-75.

The driver of the Jetta, a 40-year-old Ohio man, pulled over and called 911 after the collision, police said. Personnel from the Auburn Hills police and fire departments responded to the crash at 12:56 a.m.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been staying at a hotel in Auburn Hills adjacent to the freeway.
