PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Roads in Peoria, Bloomington and Normal will get nearly $98 million in funding for improving roads.

State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) helped secure the funds to improve roads, bridges and other critical transportation systems in central Illinois, according to a release from Koehler's office.

“Investing in our infrastructure provides safer travel and boosts the connection of our communities,” said Koehler. “With this funding, we are improving daily commutes and building a stronger foundation for our local economies.”

Koehler said the Illinois Department of Transportation's new multi-year program to build and repair such systems in the state will invest $50.6 billion over six years.
