A Bridgeton teacher who sexually assaulted a 6-year-old student on multiple occasions two decades ago was convicted Friday, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office said.

Isaias Garza, 57, of Vineland, was found guilty of sexual assault and witness tampering.

He faces 10 to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 30.

The assaults took place in 2004 and 2005, when the victim was a student in the Bridgeton ExCEL program, the Prosecutor's Office said in a news release. Garza then offered the victim money if he lied to investigators when the allegations came to light in 2018.

Garza remains free pending sentencing.
