The proposed city council solution to the problem of unsightly “set-outs” of evicted tenants’ is one that will add to the cost of rent in Toledo while marginally improving the streetscape of some city neighborhoods.
The proposed ordinance, from Councilmen Nick Komives and Theresa Gadus, would require landlords when executing an eviction to set out abandoned property in a dumpster.
Other “set-outs,” as from homeowners who have moved or cleared out an attic or renovated their kitchen, would continue to be eligible for free monthly bulk pickups from Republic Services.
At present, landlords, when tenants move, whether by their own choice or by eviction, usually have to clean out the house or apartment, sometimes removing whole rooms full of furnishings and trash, which they set on the treel
