LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The U.S. National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley is warning of a very high fire risk due to dry fields in Nebraska.

NWS Omaha posted on social media that the risk would be for Saturday afternoon and evening. The fire risk is due to high temperatures, high wind gusts and low moisture in the area.

“While the grasses may be green, crops are definitely drying out. The combination of strong southerly winds, warm temperatures, and dry fields could lead to very high to extreme fire danger on Saturday,” NWS Omaha stated. “Please exercise extreme caution as any fires that do develop could spread quickly and become difficult to control.”
