BESSEMER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there’s a group of survivors who are bringing attention to young women fighting the disease.
Over 1,000 women under the age of 40 die from breast cancer every year. PinkTopps is an organization that focuses on early detection in women under 40 and providing emotional and financial support to those fighting cancer and their families.
“I was diagnosed in November of 2024 at the age of 19 with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS),” said Jordan Collins.
Hearing the words, ‘you have cancer’ is a reality that can feel impossible to grasp.
“I tell everyone I don’t think I processed my diagnosis until I was getting the IV put in my hand for the bilateral mastectomy,” said Collins.
