CANTON - Wheeler's defense clamped down on Cherokee for a 21-8 victory in Region 5AAAAAA play.

The defense put an exclamation point on things as Wildcats overcame two second half turnovers en route to their first region 5AAAAAA victory.

“I’m extremely proud of the defense. We know we haven’t played good defense the entire year. In spots we would play well. We talked about no matter what the situation is, short field or long field, just do your job and tonight those guys did that,” Wheeler head coach Bryan Love said.

Trailing 21-0 in the third quarter, the Warriors finally got on the scoreboard when Brandon Hamilton took a counter 17 yards into the end zone. After a Wildcat penalty on the ensuing point after attempt, Hamilton bulled his way for a successful two point conversion.
