WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Four new names were engraved on the Kansas Fallen Firefighter Memorial Wall on Sunday to honor Kansas firefighters who paid the ultimate price, bringing the total number to 145.
For some first responders, the ceremony was a way to thank those who came before them and remember colleagues they once worked alongside. For families of the fallen, it’s a comforting reminder that their loved ones will not be forgotten.
"By having this memorial and having these names on the wall and every year coming here reading those names, those people that have fallen in the line of duty before us, many over 100 years before us, are still being remembered every day," Corby Welch, the honor guard commander for the Local 135 Wichita Fire Honor Guard, said.
