LOS ANGELES — There were two storylines heading into Week 5 before the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers took the field inside SoFi Stadium: Jayden Daniels’ homecoming and Joe Whitt Jr.’s defense.
With Daniels active for the first time since suffering a knee injury against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, the question was whether or not he’d be as effective quarterbacking the Commanders while sporting a brace on his left knee.
Meanwhile, on defense, Washington needed to clean up a lot of mistakes it had made over the course of the first four weeks, ranging from a lack of eye discipline, communication, and committing penalties at critical points in the game.
In the opening quarter, it didn’t look like either storyline was going to finish with a positive conclusion.
