NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- This week marks two years since Hamas attacked Israel, murdering more than 1,200 people, including dozens of Americans, and launching a war that has since killed more than 64,000 in Gaza.

The New Jersey area is holding a number of events marking the somber anniversary.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer was expected to announce a new curriculum that will be introduced in schools in remembrance of Oct. 7, 2023.

In Tenafly, the victims of the attacks were remembered, while those who survived recalled the horror of the day and their experiences of being held hostage.

Edan Alexander from Tenafly was held captive for 584 days. His parents attended the Jewish Community Center on Sunday to rally for the rest of the hostages.
