A pedestrian struck by a bus in Boston’s South End died on Monday morning.

The person struck was trapped under the bus near 774 Albany St. at about 7:58 a.m. when Boston police were called, according to a statement by city Officer Mark Marron.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead a couple of hours later, a Boston police spokesperson confirmed.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit and members of the Fatal Collision Investigation Team are investigating the incident.

In the wake of the collision, police closed Albany Street in both directions between Massachusetts Avenue and Northampton Street. The Massachusetts Avenue Connector inbound toward Boston Medical Center is also closed.

Officials did not release the pedestrian’s identity as of 10 a.m. Monday.
