A driver who mowed down his former partner’s brother after a four-day drink and cocaine binge has been jailed for 32 months. ‌

Andrew Doig’s Ford Fiesta mounted the pavement at speed, striking the man who landed on the bonnet before falling to the ground. ‌

Doig had earlier claimed to be carrying a machete and a shotgun as he went to confront the man in Newton Drive, Newmains. ‌

He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and assault to injury and danger of life.
