CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program will continue operating during the current government shutdown, the state Department of Health announced.

WIC clinics will keep providing food benefits, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referral services until further notice.

Historically, West Virginia WIC has remained open throughout past government shutdowns.

However, because this shutdown occurs at the start of the fiscal year, clinics will only remain open as long as available funding lasts.

The Department of Health says it is exploring all funding options, including redirecting existing resources, to maintain services for families.
