AUGUSTA, Maine — Renys will celebrate the opening of a new store in Augusta on Thursday.

The grand opening begins at 9:30 a.m. at 152 Western Avenue in the Capitol Shopping Center. The all-day celebration features a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, food, raffles, and other activities. Those planning to attend can RSVP to Sibyl at snpitcock@gmail.com .

Founded in 1949 by Robert H. "R.H." Reny, the Maine-based retailer began with a small store in Damariscotta. Today, Renys operates 20 locations across the state and employs more than 500 people, though the Portland-based store is slated to close . No date has been announced yet for that.
