ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) - Dozens of new apartments are now available for seniors in St Albans.

Reid Commons is a mixed-income apartment complex giving seniors a place to call home.

Nonprofit housing developer Cathedral Square spearheaded the project, using 19 sources of state and federal funding to make the $19 million project pencil out.

The 33 homes will be occupied by homeless seniors and those leaving a single-family home, opening it for local families.

“Eleven homes, or a third of this building, is being occupied by those who sold homes for others to move into. A complete win-win for the housing crisis in Vermont,” said Kim Fitzgerald of Cathedral Square.

Local leaders call this a big deal for seniors and for St. Albans, which aims to build 200 housing units in five years.
