The eager Toledo Walleye were on the ice 10 minutes before Monday’s official start of training camp.
The 24 players, including 22 skaters and two goaltenders, had good pep while going through high-speed drills at the Huntington Center.
Walleye coach Pat Mikesch, who enters his third season at the helm after leading Toledo to back-to-back first-place finishes in the ECHL Central Division, said his players were champing at the bit to get going.
“It's exciting,” Mikesch said. “The guys are all on the ice an extra 10 minutes early. You could tell they just want to go. It was a long summer, even as late as we played. You can feel the energy.”
Mikesch led the Walleye to the Kelly Cup Finals last year and to the Western Conference finals in 2023-24. He has 14 players who suited up for Toledo
