LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) -- Residents at the Seward Park Extension on Broome Street say they are living in fear as massive rats take over their front entrance.

Elizabeth Colon says she shot a video at 5:15 a.m. on her way to work, capturing several large rodents feasting on trash right outside the lobby doors.

MColon says the infestation has gotten so bad that some neighbors are afraid to leave their apartments at night. The videos she and other residents sent to PIX11 show rats leaping from open trash cans and running across sidewalks, describing them as “as big as cats.”
