MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. – Arkansas State Police officials said on Monday that two drivers were dead and two additional people were injured after a six-vehicle highway accident in Mississippi County.
Officials said the crash took place on State Highway 181, north of State Highway 140 between Manilla and Osceola. The Friday afternoon crash occurred due to zero-visibility conditions on the highway, caused by smoke from a burning field east of the highway, they added.
Authorities explained that traffic on 181 had slowed because of the smoke when 21-year-old Mackenzie Marie Risner of Manila, driving a GMC Terrain, struck the rear of a Kenworth semi-truck stopped on the road. The Terrain rolled into a ditch after the collision, officials said.
