PEORIA, Ill. W(MBD) -- A judge ordered a man held pending the outcome of allegations that he illegally possessed a handgun last week.

Rico Jackson Jr., 20, appeared last week in Peoria County Circuit Court on the sole charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, a felony that carries a three-year maximum prison term.

And at that hearing, the judge ordered his detention hearing to be set for Monday.

He was arrested in connection with a shooting on Thursday that injured a man at the University Convenience Foodmart and Fresh Deli, at the corner of University Street and West Gift Avenue.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. A 19-year-old man was located with a graze wound to his leg and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
