According to the Placer Mosquito & Vector Control, a Roseville man has died due to the virus, which is spread by mosquitoes. There have been 54 confirmed human cases and five virus-related deaths this year. The county has seen a high number of virus-positive mosquitoes and dead bird samples.

“We’re saddened to learn of this individual’s passing, and extend our sympathies to their loved ones,” said Dr. Rob Oldham, health officer and director of Health and Human Services. “Simple steps can help prevent mosquito bites. Let’s keep up those habits, together.”
