ASHBURN, Va. — If you just look at the final 27-10 score from the Washington Commanders’ Week 5 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, you might be surprised that the game didn’t start so swell for head coach Dan Quinn’s squad, and that even though it went better as it went on, there was a big moment where a rookie coughed up the football and gave their opponent a chance to get back into the fight.
But that’s exactly what happened at the start of the fourth quarter. Up by 10 and in firm control of the game flow, Commanders’ rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt fumbled the football, leading to the team’s only giveaway of the game. It set the Chargers up near midfield and breathed new life into their efforts.
It could have been a terrible moment; everyone talked about it all week
