NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Early voting has officially wrapped up for the Oct. 11 election and Orleans Parish saw one of its strongest turnouts in years.
Nearly 39,000 people cast their ballots early, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office. That’s a significant increase compared to other recent local elections.
Political analysts say the surge could point to growing enthusiasm among voters but also frustration with city leadership.
“It symbolizes the fact that voters are engaged,” said Dr. Silas Lee “You have a high level of frustration in terms of quality of life in the city. Voters are paying attention to candidates, their platforms, and they want to see some change in direction, accountability and services.”
